- Supervisory Survival Skills
Supervising
others doesn't come easy particularly for skilled technicians
that were promoted because of their technical competence
not necessarily their people management skills.
This eight-module program (that
can be expanded based on needs) is a good basic course for
new or experienced supervisors that have had limited exposure
to people management skill development. Recommended class
size is a maximum of sixteen people.
Objectives:
- Explain
the role of the supervisor (Module 1)
- Develop motivational strategies
for the work unit (Module 2)
- Identify situational leadership
styles
- Make more effective use
of time management strategies (Module 3)
- Use an interaction game
plan for effective coaching (Module 4)
- Implement a performance
management model for conducting performance planning
and performance review discussions (Module 5)
- Identify appropriate communication
techniques including active listening, feedback
and influence skills (Module 6)
- Use problem solving and
process improvement tools and techniques for maintaining
effective productivity (Module 7)
- Develop strategies
for effectively developing and maintaining high
performance teams (Module 8)
Other modules that can be
added include: Conflict Management, Planning, Critical
Thinking Skills, Selecting Organizational Talent, The
Continuous Improvement Lifestyle, and Delegation
